How can I create an Access Control Group and assign users to it?

To create a new Access Control Group (ACG), in the "Users" tab, click the "Access Control Groups" button in the top right.

From here, you'll see a table of all pre-existing ACGs, which works like any other table in the MCP! You can sort the table by clicking on the various headers at the top, and you can even export the table to Excel by clicking on the "Export to Excel" button in the bottom right of the screen.

To continue with the ACG creation, click "Add New Group" in the top right.

In this screen, start by naming your new ACG. The ACG name could really be anything, such as a name of a department, where all users in that department will be placed in this ACG, or perhaps you just want to name it something that summarizes the permissions of the ACG.

In this case, I will be naming this ACG "Read Only Users", and I'll be placing users in this group to have them only be able to see MCP settings, but not change MCP settings.

Event Management

The first area permission control is with Event Management. Here, you can specify what the default access level will be for users placed into this ACG, meaning the level of access users will have for all events in your system. The three options available are No Access, Read Only, and Full Access, as explained below:
  1. No Access: hides events all together from the user; users will only be able to see events if given specific permissions to override this default level (cont. below)
  2. Read Only: displays all events to users, but withholds the ability to save anything at any time
  3. Full Access: full, unimpeded ability to completely control and events settings and content at any time
In this case, we want users in this ACG to be able to see all events in the MCP but not have the option of editing their settings, so this will be set to "Read Only".

However, there are two events that I want the users of this ACG to have control over. Using the Specific Event Permissions table, I can add a specific access level permission for these two events here that will override the default access level established for all of the other events in the MCP.

Sub-block Management

The next area of customization is all about sub-blocks. Here, the functionality is the very same as with the event settings. Keep in mind that the default access level starts off as "No Access", and this means that even for events your users have access to, the sub-blocks will not be visible. If you want your users to have access to sub-blocks, whether it be Read Only or Full Access, and not just the main block, you'll want to set this to something else.

The same idea applies with the specific permissions as well. Any specific sub-block permission you set up for the users of this ACG will override the default for all other sub-blocks of all events.

MCP Functions

Following event and sub-block management comes a slew of manageable MCP permissions. You'll have the option of limiting this ACG's access to all MCP locations indicated in the screenshot below.

Each option shown as the same three permission levels available to choose from, and will dictate what users are able to do in these areas of the system. Keep in mind that when setting an option such as "Changes" to No Access, the system will completely hide the system tab from the user all together.

Once everything is set up as desired, save the ACG. Now is the time to begin adding users to your new group! To do so, head to the bottom of the page, and select available users from the drop-down, shown below.

Once the desired users are selected, click "Add to Group", and the users will be saved to the group for you. The system will provide you a pop-up just letting you know that if the users were in another ACG before, they will be taken out of it in order to be added to this one.

That's all there is to it! ACGs are a powerful tool for giving certain MCP users a wide range of various permissions in the system. Keep an eye out on future releases as we add more and more functionality to this area of the MCP.
